The End of Innocence.

The child sits, curls tumbling over her small shoulders, sitting upwards on the lofty queen-sized bed looking into the green eyes of the man sitting across from her. He is a friend who is there when she cries, when she needs attention, love, caring and the like. She holds his hand which is larger than hers, feeling warm with the heat of contentment and happiness, a smile on both their faces. He is her everything, even her Lover, with wavy brown locks and arms to save her from falling into the dangerous pits that are present throughout life.

"You're not going to leave, right, ______?" She asks in such a melancholy way the man pulls her into him, locking his arms around her protectively.

"Of course not. I'll always be here when you need me."

She smiles, feeling assured by his words, knowing that there is a bond between them that is special, unbreakable, each knowing what each other thinks and feels.

"....Thank you.... I.... Love you."

The words ring in the emptiness of the dusty attic, clinging to the breaking ceiling and traveling under the floorboards that creak with the weight of them.

"I know. I love you too."

He then lays them both down, pulling the heavy sheets over their bodies, curling around the girl as though she were his own sister, lover, heart. With a whisper goodnight they drift off into a peaceful sleep, the warmth of their bodies radiating so they cannot get cold in the August chill.

[font=Georgia]A glass breaks. Mouths work in anger. Hands pull and shove. Hearts crumble and grow in an endless cycle. Red. Cracking, wilting feathers burning into ash. Wrapped into tar. Decimated.

They sit across from each other, the girl now older, the man the same age, not looking any different than before. She runs a hand through her hair, trembling, broken, bruised. She reaches her hand out to the man, who only slaps it away, staring at her in disgust.

"It's YOUR FAULT this shit happened to you."

The words sting like cold daggers into her carcass that dies though attempts to live, eyes beginning to water.

"You're CRYING now? What the hell is wrong with you? Suck it up and shut up."

He looks out the cloudy window, the cold in the room seeming even colder than before, green eyes only shining with some sort of loathing the girl can't put her finger on as she pulls a deflated pillow onto her lap, hugging it as though to give it it's own mind, wanting this to stop, wanting to understand why he hates her all of a sudden.

"...Just go to sleep."

The words stick into the girls mind as her eyelids begin to feel heavy, the tears retreating back into their pores as she takes a blanket and folds it around herself, the man not even looking at her once as she tries to relax though her body feels sore from all the things the world has done to her.

"....."

"I still love you."

"....."

"Even if you're not the same ______ I knew before."

She could almost hear the tear fall from his cheek and into the mattress, but it didn't matter.

Everything had changed.

And it was all her fault.
