Image for the poem calm

calm

you watch me with quiet resolve
I know you're there lingering in the shadows
I can feel your pulse in my chest
as you caress my sorrow
and punish my self indulgences

you think I don't know you well
but I do know you
while you stayed silent
I amused you with my chatter
and got close to your soul

it spoke to me of loneliness
and I understood you didn't want to be touched,
I really didn't want to be touched either
but your rain moved me deeply

I cried in your pain
it was solemn and stoic
it cast a long shadow
where I could sit in your shade
and absorb your feelings

I loved you then because your silence quieted my screaming
and I knew what is was to be calm
