The Misery of Man
The noise is a torrential rain
Cascading on my brain
My mind begins to stray
I scream "Make it go away!"
I get on my knees to pray
I can't think of what to say
My thoughts begin to fray
My heart begins to stray
I keep asking "Will you stay?"
But they always walk away
Am I a broken man today?

Author's Note
Many men in today's time have this notion that they shouldn't show emotion. Keeping their feelings pent up inside until eventually, they break. As men we are human, it's ok to cry. It's ok to talk to someone. It's ok to live.

For a poem with only
one end rhyme you've
done well to get your
point over. And I think
it is a truism to say
that men throughout
the ages have been taught
to not show their feelings.

Originally it was going to be a freeverse poem, but then one word led to another and it just ended up rhyming. This is something I still struggle with, choosing my emotions over my image. Needless to say, I'm a lot better than I was.

Emotions show us we aee more than we want to be or can be. Do not hold back when writing because emotion is our pens ink.

Society has put a lot of strains on men to show power through resilience and stoicism, but many times the facade falls apart and it hurts to the core. I've always taught my sons that it's ok to cry and be sad at times because feeling emotions is part of the human experience and we shouldn't pretend to be something we're not. Gotta keep it real.
