What You Don't Know...
I feel so picked apart
taking out pieces they want
and throwing away the whole plot
come back again whenever they want
something about that pisses me the fuck off
they only like me when I'm miserable
wonder when they'll start liking me for me
maybe when I stop giving them what they want
I'm not mad, just disappointed...
so here is the one fuck I'll give
take it for all it is
some of you talk to those who've tried to hurt me
I try not to take it personally
but excuse me if I'm a bit apprehensive
I've seen enough snakes to know
not to get too close
now what you don't know is...
I have a wife of 15 years
and I love her more than the day I met her
working hard every day
bought a house
it isn't much
but I make sure we live like kings and queens
my birthday is in a few days
I buy a lemon meringue pie
hot Cheetos, and Big Red every year
been doing that for as long as I can remember
my mom and dad worked a lot
and didn't really celebrate birthdays
so I figured if no one was gonna give me it
I would do it for myself
something I been doing for 38 years
I have a mother-in-law with stage four cancer
when I was younger came from Texas to Ohio
she took me into her home and fed me
even though she had every reason to hate me
I was just some brown kid from the south
dating her youngest daughter
I know we all don't live forever
but that one is gonna be a hard one to take
I have a niece and nephew in college
another niece and nephew who get straight A's
they participate in school activities
I may never have kids of my own
but with them I couldn't be prouder
I often wonder what people must think
maybe that I'm some devil worshipping lost soul
well, I believe in a God but not religion
if that sends me to hell than so be it
because what you don't know is I've seen heaven
and it goes by in a blink of an eye
so that's why I hold on to special moments
and leave the bad ones in poetry

Usually around my birthday I do a lot of reflecting. I think I needed to write out my thoughts in a raw way. I kind of feel like im at this point in my life where going forward a lot of changes are gonna be happening for better or worse.
