Farce of summer holidays

We welcomed it with open arms
but ever soon it lost its charm
and whatever shadows shade
dissolved wherever rays were laid

Bared our skin to colour bronze
but its intensity went ON and ON
and seeking any shady spot
cool that was, any dark inky blot

Sun hats they were all sold out
sunscreen disappearing in a rout
the earth was parched its surface cracked
with no escape, we all are trapped

Like ants we scamper bear a leaf
to fan ourselves and give relief
when factor 50's not enough
like eggs we fry with yellow up

The forecast says there's no let-up
waters scarce with none to sup
warm beer, the coolers have gone phut
ice cubes so scarce, this weather sucks

Our holiday it was a ball
lie through our teeth in false recall
Oh yes, we'll all return next year
when all our sores had time to heal
a farce its humours, left concealed
