love's tragedy

Love’s tragedy

Once I loved a dolphin and kept her in the swimming pool
I wore a frogman suit we spent hours splashing about
but noticed she was getting sad and missed her own kind
If you love someone, you have to set them free
I wrapped her in wet blankets and drove her to the beach
her family came close to shore, greeting her.
I visited the beach every day, and she glad to see me
as was her family, who accepted me as one of them.
One day when I came for a swim, she wasn’t there
the other dolphins came and made clicking sounds looking
mournful; something about a ship and a propeller.
I never went back to the beach on an Island in Greece
it is easier to remember the good times.
