THEATRICAL POSE

THEATRICAL POSE

I knew the cause of death.
This was obvious to me.
The sun scorched the land and the trees
and every living creature
lying there upon and within.
The crystal dish was dry.
Bits of dirt and leaf fragments
littered the empty oasis.
It had been filled earlier that morning,
however, the hungry heat of the sky
drank it quickly in it's selfish starvation.
The sun set behind the tower
as the fire continued to devour
every living being.
I saw her lying there on the grass.
A female sparrow, I can tell
by her markings, or lack there of.
Flat on her back. Wings tucked beneath her.
Pretty claws reaching towards the brutal sky.
I wondered if she had failed and fallen
from a tree limb above
or whether she had been hopping around the porch
seeking mercy and love.
....ONE SIMPLE SIP''''
ONE DRINK
or maybe simply dying, lying down
in a theatrical pose
.....NOBODY KNOWS.....

Author's Note
I woke up one afternoon. The temperature was over 112 degrees. The first thing that I saw before me was a dead sparrow.
