Stinky tofu

Have you tried it yet?
That infamous stinky tofu?
If so, do you agree with my assessment?
Have you braved any crunchy insects
From street vendors?
I most definitely draw the line on those!
Do you think of me at a sushi bar?
Or when you sip a cognac?
I’m trying to recall, that first night,
What finally tipped me
Into tipsy—saké? Vodka? (Drunk on you?)
I think it was the Ruby Red…
Seems fitting…
But most definitely,
The final tip was ALL you,
Your charm, your patience, your attentiveness
Your conversation
Your sensitivity
Your affection…
That’s the stimulant in my blood
That does not fade away
You are that sweet drug
Rooted in my heart
You’re the flavor
Ever on my tongue
The voice
Ever echoing through my memories
You are the favorite delicacy
On whom I so passionately long to feast
Feast my eyes & ears and mind and mouth
My seeking fingers long to ravish all of you
Yet
I would settle (put my brave face on)
for a stick of stinky tofu
(or even skewered deep-fried insects)
If only I might share a meal
With you
