Perfect Attendance
I wish my line were straighter
And didn’t twist off the paper
So they could see what it means
Without taking away space to breathe
Dismissing the only place I’m free
Pulling hope out of the sky
Extinguishing the burn to be alive
Please don’t let the feeling stop
My blood’s never been this hot
Dreaming only leads to bleeding
And I’ve got nothing left to lose
I know how easy something can change
All I see is love’s expiration date
I want to believe
And not be too scared to dream
But every goodbye seems permanent
So I try to be indifferent
It keeps me up at night
It’s the only way I know how to survive
Denial doesn’t make it go away
And attention makes me wish for future days
When I won’t be stuck in this gray space
The turning lines aren’t meant to be erased
Because this love can never be replaced
It’s not jealousy
I don’t want their lives
Though they’re easier than mine
I just want to stop feeling
Like I’m running out of time
And didn’t twist off the paper
So they could see what it means
Without taking away space to breathe
Dismissing the only place I’m free
Pulling hope out of the sky
Extinguishing the burn to be alive
Please don’t let the feeling stop
My blood’s never been this hot
Dreaming only leads to bleeding
And I’ve got nothing left to lose
I know how easy something can change
All I see is love’s expiration date
I want to believe
And not be too scared to dream
But every goodbye seems permanent
So I try to be indifferent
It keeps me up at night
It’s the only way I know how to survive
Denial doesn’t make it go away
And attention makes me wish for future days
When I won’t be stuck in this gray space
The turning lines aren’t meant to be erased
Because this love can never be replaced
It’s not jealousy
I don’t want their lives
Though they’re easier than mine
I just want to stop feeling
Like I’m running out of time
