The Columbian World Fair of 1893 in Chicago
Was to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America.
Oooops.
Due to the fact that it followed the Paris World Fair of 1889
It had to be four years later, so 1893.
Also: Paris had the new Tower to show.
Chicago wanted to go One Up.
Taller, bigger.
They selected George W. G. Ferris'
Wheel.

Author's Note
Such a wheel was nothing new, but he won a patent for it. The story of The Wheel and its ''adventures'' after that Fair is quite fascinating.
