Image for the poem don

don't trouble the waters

I want to touch but don't dare
caress your thoughts and taste your soul
within my honesty, blush every time I think about you

you're a man of intellect and I can be cutting
but when it comes to you
I find myself disarmed of my charming ways
wearing nothing but a smile

you see me don't you?

bare and trembling
trying so hard to be tough
but you see through it

how long I wonder?

have you been paying attention?

I wonder what you know about me
I have studied you from afar
tasting your resolve
and supping from your strength

I want to spill metaphors
so you will never know
what you do to me

I feel foolish now
even as I seek to hinder the words
they rise to the surface of my soul
making me so transparent
