Melancholic melodies
I put songs on to chill
And to you it seems melancholic melodies
To me its the dream
Decided to have a day taking things slow
Why not I've nowhere to go
I play some music to set the scene
And these melancholic melodies play in my dreams
Sometimes we don't need nobody
We don't wanna be part of a team
Sometimes we need to escape
Because people can be way to mean
So I play my melancholic melodies
And I'm Iiving the dream

This one really moved me, perhaps because I've done the same thing myself. I'm a big fan of Leonard Cohen, and my father always called his music "songs to slit your throat to". He couldn't understand what anyone would find in such dark and, well, melancholy music. Likewise, when I played one of his songs in school during study time when we were allowed to play our own music, everyone else in the room seemed flabbergasted!
Melancholy has informed a lot of music choices down the years. Cohen, Joy Division, Morrissey, Meat Puppets, Tori Amos, Nirvana, Tracy Chapman... Melancholy is the gentle side of darkness.

Music is life with us, me and mine. Its how we communicate when we cannot put our feelings into words. I can hear a song my hubs plays and immediately know the mood and how to either fix or become part of said mood. Its a gift, really in my opinion. Long live music for life! <3
