Our Little Shack

Boo do you remember the little one bedroom shack
Over by the boarding house down by the tracks
We spent hours on end stuffing newspaper into the cracks
In the middle of winter bracing the cold back

Things got a little better, we got a home with gutters
But remember our shack, it was so cold, even when we were mad we still had to cuddle
Now we have central heat and air, along with a roof that doesn't leak
Now we go weeks on end and shit we barely speak

Remember those long cold walks to the market
Now we each have a car and we're paying to park it
But oh those conversations all along our way
From promises of a better future, and how was your day

Cold and shivering we took our time and we laughed
Trudging back home to a hot meal and a shared hotter bath
I can't remember the last time I even seen you coming out of the bathroom
All indications say that this relationship is doomed

I've recently been thinking of giving all funds away
Going back to my old job for a whole lot less pay
Selling the house and cars or giving them away
Purchasing a shack down by the tracks, would that be okay

Returning to those long walks, simply holding hands
Openly showing the world, you're my woman and I'm your man
The cuddling and hot baths as you know are back
We're eternally blessed in our cold little shack
