the trip was better left untravelled

You walk in like deja vu
drugs in your veins
gang violence on your tongue
and all I can think of
is how badly I want to bail
out of this trip
down memory lane

You steal my phone
record the conversation
of his arrest
while you try and talk
him out of getting shot

It doesn't matter that we're not there
the tension in the room is knifeable
and I'm not gonna lie
but I find it ironic you can get
so wrapped up in drama of a man
that treats you so badly
regardless of how good the sex is

Not that I can talk
when I've been in similar shoes
caught up with people
my life would have been better without
but the excitement of the addiction
kept me going back
even when I knew I deserved more

You walk in like deja vu
drugs in your veins
gang violence on your tongue
and all I can think of
is how badly I want to bail
out of this trip
down memory lane

You give my phone back
battery spent
private arrest video recorded
and the relief
nobody was shot tonight
