The rain wears me down
the way water wears away stone
It's hard to smile
when everything is cold and wet
mold climbing the walls
exacerbating the tightness
in my chest
that wakes me up at night
with worries I can't control
Grey skies echo
out my windows
and speak to me in nothings
the emptiness only broken
by the colours of birds
sheltering on my balcony railing
shaking off the rain
twittering at each other
and eating popcorn
I deliberately dropped yesterday
I smile every time
they pay a visit to my grey world
making me forget
the empty reflections
and wet weight in my head
They remind me
life and hope exist beyond
this unending deluge
while we all wait for the sun
