Not sure why I thought of football (or soccer as they call it here in the US), when the games are tied but the success is measured by % of possession, shots on goal, etc. etc. In the end, it can be mentally (and physically) frustrating, wondering who was better.

Quite. What I find even more ridiculous in soccer is that it is the referee who decides how much overtime there is. And based on what, actually except his own deductions.
