I think the concept of alms, at least the concept of giving them, is important (not that most of us can really afford too do so, much). I twist anxiously at the idea of being the one who has to ask for them though.

I’ve known multitudes who’ve lived by these words. Many on the streets, many in the gulag. Yet to meet a hungry one at the gate who would reject alms. Read my poem “Lazarus in the Dumpster.” Btw, you been there or just visiting?

No alms, please is a motto by which I live my life.
