Monologue to the Moon

i climbed the tree once more
to catch a glimpse of moonlight
for a moment, i stood in midnight spotlight
amongst an audience of stars
i read my monologue to the moon
because people dismiss my thoughts too soon
planets listen
i cry, i scream, i laugh
performing, but not entirely acting
no.. i save those skills for morning
embracing a character not my own
friends and family never catch me
out of costume
but they sit in the front row
so i carry on, to the heavens
as dialogue progresses
scripts slide out from their cells
where they rot each day
stew behind my rib cage
waiting for the cue
it’s safe out here
when nobody’s near
the constellations and the galaxies applaud
i take a bow
and realize now
only gravity can hold the weight of my words.
