Edge of Night

I’ve mis-sworn allegiance
misplaced my trust
in my own force of will and ego lust
Braving each path as the one who brought mirth
a cup-half-full vision my basis of worth

Now here we sit on the edge of night
casting no shadows in stars’ cold light
for we are but a meaningless mist
and this is eternity’s cruel twist:

It matters not what we do with our time
for all is lament and all will die
Though we reach for each other through cloud and shade
even love is lament
and love will fade
