Leaving the Nest

I am different
but aren't we all?
Each of us love
and each of us fall.
We grow and develop in our own special ways
to better prepare ourselves for the following days.
Our environment has built us to stand the way we do
and our loved ones have sculpted us to do as they do.
But though I have been altered and sculpted to a par
I've also got a fire in me that sets me far apart.
To do as others I've seen do for all my time
seems boring and as sour as a lime.
These people I've been made by are so closed minded
they are like a book whose spin has been bounded.
I think so differently compared to the ones I've learned from
that I honestly don't see how from them I've come.
I feel like a penguin in the desert
uncomfortable, lonely, and reserved.
The ones who brought me up look at me like I'm a species instead of their own blood.
Half the time I'm grateful they're unaware of the thoughts that flood
flood my mind and my soul
and make me wonder what value my life holds.
I can and will do great things
but not if I stay here with them restrained by these chains.
I'm an eagle in a blue jay's nest
my wings are cramped and there's hurt in my chest.
I'm not with the people who understand me
I need space so my wings can spread and be free.
I'm not ashamed of how I was raised or who did the job
I just know my abilities are the quantity of a raging mob.
Staying here makes my chances of going far slim
and being here any longer I will start to go grim.
Our own individuality is what we want it to be
and in order for me to achieve it I have to be set free.
