Anymore

I don't think I can do it anymore -
Pretend that I'm not broken.
Smile and laugh,
As though I can give trust like a token.

I don't think I can do it anymore -
Hide away the tears,
Act as though I'm not drowning,
Beneath insecurities and fears.

I don't think I can do it anymore -
Believe what they say,
Jump into love,
Like a warrior into the fray.

I don't think I can do it anymore -
Always standing strong,
Being the tough girl,
That knows deep down she doesn't belong.

I don’t think I can do it anymore –
Act as though I don’t care
About the things they say,
That leaves me bleeding and bare.

My walls have been tested,
Weathered and bent,
And I have shriveled behind them,
Lonely and spent.

But then of course, I am a creature of pride
And I refuse to lie down
I simply pray for the day,
I will be able to wear my sorrows as a crown
