The Wall (written for competition: That which must not be named)
The Wall
Tall and wide and impenetrable
some say they have jumped through and
come back over the top
tell us what is
what is there
over there
just
looking at it though
you cant tell
no one can tell by the way it's made
no matter who it is
there is the stopping
you cant go in and out as you please
you cant just open and close at will
it goes and goes
no doorway or gate apparent
scared of it we are
most of us
but curious
forever fascinated with ...

Only Defense
severe weapons
words to hurt
twist the knife
machete cuts
hatchet swings
knock another down
world wide
silent
sorrow
coldness burning
memory scars
each time
torturing another
spoken darts
sabotage moves
inflection of a tone
sneer with
barbed wire wrapping
pain permeates
too deeply
no armor left
losing battle
caring
stabs back in blood
no understandable motive
cruelty
pride
human insecurity
heartache
soulshake
hard withstanding this tide
...

Juice affair
That slight resistance
firm tightness witholding
willowy watery wanton sweetness
melting mingling tongue tingling
bite hard and deep
juicy mouth seep
gather in honey ripe glory
lip dripping nectar sipping
round pulsing lightness of air
taste sugar saturated
smooth throat swallow sated
senses tempted
juice affair
desire ripe
express devour
sliding
gliding
lazily
down
pear

One Unbearable Instant
Falling silent in the middle of a sentence
because it reminds of something
once said
the time laughing
together
that silly fiasco that happened
then...that yesterday
in the past
the phone rings late at night
breathing feels like
drowning in underwater slow motion
because it is
not the one
songs are mine fields
that have to be tiptoed around
cautiously
having the power to freeze the heart
then
it so easily breaks
at the first warmth it encounters
better to avoid them
all together
...
because it reminds of something

Desert heart
This place
I keep ending up
I run and trip
try to go another way
but it always ends here
no matter
I cant escape my own heart
the path worn now to bare dirt
the storm destroyed
most
everything
down here is where i hide
waiting for purple rain
you blew through me
the heat seared away what was left
now just dry hard earth
remains
I want to plant something
again
watch it grow
but you are gone
with you went
all my hope

Skipping Moonbeams
This little girl
why does she follow me
hovering
questioning eyes
I have no time for her
not now today
pressures and stressors
time compressors
leave no room for play
she beckons and whispers
you can be free
I silence the knowledge
im educated by college
certified degree
still she wanders close
humming the song i forget now
something i need to know
i wish she would just go
back to the past
skipping moonbeams wont last
doesnt she get it
time wont let up
moving too...
why does she follow me

The Mirror
All those hours
all those long lovely hours
of talking
laughing
whispering
quietly in the dark
thinking and believing
you saw me
it was me you were looking into
understanding
connecting with
how beautiful it is
to feel real
to be seen
to know you are not alone
how could i know
the pane of glass
how could i guess
to try and touch you
would be
hardness and cold
so smooth
reflecting every thought
emotion
movement
i believed in you
believed the reflection was true
...
