He Said My Mouth is Lovely

Your lips are like red silk thread.
    Your mouth is lovely.

King Solomon wrote these words over three thousand years ago.
He never saw the way light sparkles on your lips or he might have added
“Your smile sparkles like diamonds and
your tongue leaves glittering jewels in its wake.”
With love from your favorite professor,
Cameron

A flutter grew in my chest
at the base of my breasts
as his words found their
way to my heart.

I felt the waking of that
familiar thrum of desire
within me
and wondered
where it would lead.
Those ancient urges always lead

and I sometimes follow.

Author's Note
My daughter shared another message from her professor and the poem she wrote about it. She sent him a version of the selfie shared here. I know the flutter she feels and realize it won't be denied but I admire her self-ownership in the phrase, "I sometimes follow." I hope she isn't hurt. She knows I worry. She also knows I feel her excitement and anticipation.
