Promising the Moon and Stars
I’m back in those days
Oh what an old man thinks when he reflects
A memory never forgets
An adolescent poet in love
Promising the moon and stars
And yet
I never went out to get them
Perhaps I didn’t deserve ‘em
Or better yet I wasn’t ready
He who dares compose lines and rhymes
Writes promises
That can be broken or lost in time
Embedded in the recesses of my mind
Oh to be eighteen again
Thinking I was in style
En vogue
That I was the rogue poet claiming hearts
When all I was doing was capturing pictures with words
Secrets encoded in poems
Known only to me
