Tainted World
It was a nation that thrived on knowledge
On education
On the understanding that every citizen had a responsibility
To learn and grow and share their wisdom
And they thrived
Every resident kept to their promise
Working with the each generation
Teaching them ways that were truly synergistic
Harmonious and altruistic
Elevating them to a new level
Theirs was a state of scholars and craftsmen
Poets and scientists
Artists and Engineers
Historians and thinkers who sought out truth and purpose
Everyone knows that with scientific thought
Knowledge grows
And here was a society which flourished
Without greed or avarice
Happiness was attained by love and brotherhood
Some centuries later
Settlers discovered their land
And upon reaching their shores
They brought with them a darkness
War and disease
Tainting the land and their hearts
The colonizers
Not understanding these ways
Destroyed most of the evidence
Giving way to a new
Tainted world

Thank you so much PR. I think I enjoyed this prompt because I could relate to past civilizations where their way thinking is (was) so different than on our. There are still primitive tribes that we are not allowed to come in contact with for these very same reasons.

I LOVED this entry, Wally. It takes me back to my Native American heritage and how much has been destroyed because of colonization. I have a love/hate relationship with that: colonization. As a former third-world missionary, I can definitely see the benefits of providing peoples with new technology which would provide water, et al. However, the destruction of their beliefs, and how they choose to use that water in relation to them is a whole new ballgame that I absolutely detest.

Thank you so much Ahavati. Yes, I was writing with them in mind. Their societies were advanced in so many ways and so much of their history was erased. It saddens me how they were eradicated, how much art and language were destroyed.
I wonder if in some distant future, another civilization will do the same to this world.
