Modern Heretics
Don't ignore the world
Around you
In favor of one
Above-
Life is
What we have
And it's everywhere-
If you'd look
From the clouds
And see.
Our Saviours are hung
On chain-link fences-
But they save us
All the same.
Their lives are laid down
Day to day
And their gospels fall
On deaf ears.
Our disciples gather
In night clubs,
And alley
Littered with trash.
But they still talk
About love,
And hopes and dreams
And triumphs.
Our Samaritans are just
People on the streets,
Strangers just trying
To live.
But they're still our allies,
Still the people
Who help us
When we fall.
Our blood runs red
As the wine you drink
Our bodies as strong
As your bread.
Our rap songs
And drum fills
Are as beautiful
As your hyms-
If you listen
With the right ear.
There's a world
Just waiting
To be seen-
Look!
Around you
In favor of one
Above-
Life is
What we have
And it's everywhere-
If you'd look
From the clouds
And see.
Our Saviours are hung
On chain-link fences-
But they save us
All the same.
Their lives are laid down

Look!
