Snakeskin-Oil (NaPoWriMo 2022 #7)
Don't fall
for the false plastic praise
with its
manufactured age.
Demanding
Demeaning
conformity to the mould
and purging
'imperfection'
for sky high fees.
Those so-called 'defects'
are free
and make you unique,
instead of something
un-flawed
inhuman
unnatural
featureless and bleak.
As at the end of the day
you have to live with yourself
and you'll die
just the same
if you had pumped plastic
into yourself
in a failing bid
to grasp at youth
with repulsive pudginess.
Instead,
look to inject
some positivity and pride,
as in the fire and the flood
our skin all sloughs off the same.

Omg!! You wrote about my boys! 😍 Sorry but I love Rammstein more than life itself. I love how they can flit from heavy to tear inducing to absolute moments of pure comedy (like Zick Zack) in the space of a few songs. They’re a bit like me and my writing really. It goes from one thing to another.
I was crying laughing watching that new video today. And yet it’s so serious in its message that the beauty industry is heinous and we should love ourselves.
The message of this poem rings true. I cannot be doing with that plastic crap. I’ve always said I never, ever would. And I stand by that.
We’re all perfect in our own way.

I only recently discovered Rammstein in the last few years when they were had a feature on Spotify. Just in time for their 'Rammstein' album and adoring them ever since.
Their violent and despairing tempos fill the right places in my soul. It is like manic depression captured in song, and in German to make it authentic. French would seem a bit too overly melancholic, and English would lack the aggressive harshness that conveys true despair!

I literally don’t know how I got through lockdown without them. I probably got into them in the mid 2000’s and have been hooked ever since by their visceral lyrics and unbelievable live shows. And Till is just such a presence. You’d struggle to find a frontman as foreboding as him I think.
By the way, the Madison Square Garden concert and the Live In Paris concert are currently available for free on Amazon Prime if you have it.

I might give those concerts a look, though I'm more for enjoying the sounds of albums than actually enjoying crowded gigs!
I really like 'Radio' and 'Pussy' (he says with a gleam in his eye). I think you've mentioned it in one of your poems about how versatile Till can be on the emotional scale.
