Remember Forever
It wasn’t so much that it was the sign of the times
But how quickly we were all changing
On the verge of adulthood
We were leaving our innocence behind
But this was the soundtrack of our lives
And Whitney’s voice sounded eternal
A siren song to some
Something my generation held so dear
With fears
And tears
For years to come
I can look back fondly
And remember forever
Both the good and bad
Thankful I lived through it all

I think for many of us, our High School years are filled with special memories, but that senior year for me was like one of the best. Her music and her voice were powerful.

music has a way of transporting us back to a time and place if time travel is possible that's one of the ways we do it... Nasa's technology has recorded the planets themselves singing distinct songs each unique unto themselves... music is special... for me it was Prince, Purple Rain I was fourteen...

I LOVE this because that first stanza reminds me of the narrative wonder that was 'The Wonder Years'! I recently watched every episode with my grandson and one line jumped out at me: "The future was coming for us, and there was nothing we could do to stop it."

Ahavati, thank you so much for the RL and your wonderful comment. Loved the Wonder Years too, that coming of age, regardless of the decade, times were changing. Poetry, like photographs do tend to capture these moments and we can relive them one more time.

Thank you very much Wafflenose. Yes, music really tends to bring back those moments in our lives. It's nostalgic but it's also a lesson, a reflection in seeing how far we've come.
