we fall
We fall like dominoes
over and over
surprised every time we fall
I watch you in envy
wishing I was more like you
you watch me in envy
wishing you were more like me
and I'm genuinely surprised
because I can't see the beauty
you see
And every day
we fall like dominoes
picking ourselves up at days end
hoping tomorrow will be different
hoping we've changed enough
to avoid yesterdays mistakes
until we falter
and do it all again
I stack up hope
like it's a house of cards
and I pretend it's strong enough
to withstand the small catastrophes
that'll send it tumbling down
with nothing more than a word
and nothing less than a disappointment
We fall like dominoes
over and over
surprised every time we fall
we never wanted to be here
believing in more
without finding it
I see the hope in your eyes
not yet faded
your heart as full as mine was
six months ago
I hope your path leads
to better places than mine
We fall like dominoes
