Building a Life

Building a Life

Where youth misses,
Age abides.

It is in our faults
We learn,
And therein
Turn the tides.

Where youth
Hurries in
To sooth satisfy
Its frenzied feed,

Age must wait
And guard
The trail
To stay upon
The steed.

The journey
Takes
Its casual course
And life
Its unused favor,

For
In the distance,
There abouts,
There lies
In wait
A saber.

We must search
And yield
In turn
With arbitration's
Tone,

Until at last
In winter's blast,
The sword
Is taken
Home.

So it is,
That youth
Becomes
With age
Its own reward,

And building life
Takes work
And strife,
Each loss
A nail in board.
