I can’t fix you
You said you felt lonely.
So I spent my time reassuring you that you had me.
But I knew I couldn’t fix you.
You said you were sad.
So I spent my time reminding you of what you had.
But I knew I couldn’t fix you.
You said you hated yourself.
So I spent my time taking you off of the shelf.
But I knew I couldn’t fix you.
You said you said you were stressed.
So I spent my time reminding you to take slow deep breaths.
But I knew I couldn’t fix you.
You said no one is there for you,
So I spent my time reminding you of all that we went through.
But I knew I couldn’t fix you.
You said you were there for me.
So I cried myself to sleep,
because I spent my time drying everyone else’s tears,
And my pillow is the only one whose dries mine after all these years.
But I knew I couldn’t fix you.
So I go through things alone.
I may tell you what Is going on,
But knowing it,
isn’t the same as showing you care.
I know I can’t fix you.
