Our War is Over

"We fought you for 800 years"
Those are behind us now
We fought our wars
We won our independence
Not all we wanted
Did we get
This is our country
All 32 parts of it
Not 26 or 27
They have no right
But our bed was made
The treaty signed
100 years and 1 day ago today
Now we live in peace
As much as we dislike
Our state of being
No more killing
No more fucking "black n tans"
No more hunger strikes
No more "H" cages
In the "Long Kesh"
No more "Bobby Sands" patriots
Need die
No more "dirty protests"
No more "Guilford Four"
The fight is over
If that Brighton bomb
Had done its dirty deed
That bitch thatcher
Would've been no more
All Ireland would
Have celebrated her removal
"Tiocfaidh ár lá" (our day will come)
"Tá ár lá tagtha agus imithe" ( our day has come and gone")
We don't have to like
The outcome
But now
Is the time for peace
Time for healing
Time to live
Without fear

Author's Note
A personal view of our troubled history.
What happened is unforgivable, there will be no redemption for our oppressors.
But we can't live with that hatred anymore.
Too much blood spillt
Time for peace now not more war
No more families ripped asunder
Like a very wise singer said
"give peace a chance"
