A Child's Command
She told him that he had to kiss me,
With eyes full of innocent plea.
Poor baby girl does not understand,
And my heart sinks to see how she's torn.
She said she wished
That she could be two places at once.
"Or you know you could share...
Like together, right?"
If only the weight of all our wrongs
Didn't feel so heavy,
If only I was still the one he craved,
If only the person I am
Presented the slightest idea
That I would ever change.
I'm one foot out the door forever,
I fear the damage caused
By the error of my own ways,
And I can only hope that you grow to know you are enough.
You always have been.
With eyes full of innocent plea.
Poor baby girl does not understand,
And my heart sinks to see how she's torn.
She said she wished
That she could be two places at once.
"Or you know you could share...
Like together, right?"
If only the weight of all our wrongs
Didn't feel so heavy,
If only I was still the one he craved,
If only the person I am
Presented the slightest idea
That I would ever change.
I'm one foot out the door forever,
I fear the damage caused
By the error of my own ways,
And I can only hope that you grow to know you are enough.
You always have been.
