I Apologize for My Language

I must
ask your forgiveness
for my use
of poetry
 in my frail attempt
to communicate
my feelings
and perceptions.

Poetry itself
needs no defense,
but I have asked
for more
than I deserved
by my deploying it
on behalf
of my communication
weaknesses.

Where I meant to say
I like you
or in my desire
to express sensations
in the  characteristics
you bring
to my mind,
I've used
absurd comparisons
to worldly objects
or cosmic forces.

I've projected
my overwhelming feelings
onto our friendship
and perhaps created
less clarity
and not more.

I will endeavor
in the future
to be more
straightforward
and to speak
without the excesses
of figurative language.
