"Many of us crucify ourselves between two thieves - regret
for the past and fear of the future."—Fulton Oursler
afraid,
you tell the future not to come
till you have had some time to roam
where you have planted your genome;
lest, strayed
too far from your sweet comfort zone,
fortune should leave you all alone
with choices you have never known.
betrayed
by dreams that end in disarray,
or fortunes rotted by dismay,
you cling to truths of yesterday,
instead.
lest you should err and fall in love
and loyalty be asked to prove,
you hesitate to make a move,
unswayed
by prospects lurking down the road,
that oft in one's glad face explode,
or charms in season that corrode.
evade
tomorrow, where uncertainties
abound in double quantities
of unresolved hypotheses,
decayed.
you’d rather wander not into tomorrow
for fear of catching up with future sorrow.
