YOU COME TO ME (RUPERT BROOKE AND KA COX)

"When I shut my eyes and whisper your name over, I can feel your hands and face and hair above and about me." - Rupert Brooke in letter to Katherine (Ka) Cox.

You come to me, gentle as dove,
your face smiles in mine, from above,
as your body settles on mine
and your legs around mine entwine.
I raise my hands to cup your face,
my lips around your own lips trace.

Your loose stranded hair I brush back,
then my hands down your arms make track,
'til they meet, facing palm in palm.
I sense the nerves becoming calm
as fingers entwine graspingly.
Our hearts leap at the poignancy.

in that moment you draw a strength,
you straighten full-length on the length
of my body upon the bed
in which we are lying, naked.
and proceed to make love with me
as my hands, on your breasts, roam free.....

Author's Note
An imagining of a love scene between poet Rupert Brooke (picture, from wikipedia) and Ka Cox, one of his paramours. My poem was inspired by the sentence quoted at the head of my poem.

Described by a third party as 'lumpy, lovable, motherly and very sexy', among Brooke's lovers she is said to have most provided him with both maternal care (she made clothes for him) and 'existential passion' and their liaison resulted in a child that (accounts vary) miscarried or was stillborn. They broke up, causing Brooke a breakdown, when she turned down a proposal from Brooke while sharing a holiday with another man in Brooke's circle. She married after WWI and Brooke's death during it.
