A Sestina for Jade
Statistics said she didn’t stand a chance
Now I wonder more about why she’s gone
The words she wrote had something else to tell
While on lock down when we were on all indoors
Like a foreboding to reflect on life
As everyone else had to stay apart
And then as we all tried to stay apart
We didn’t know who amongst us stood a chance
While many were very careless with life
The plague swept away and then they were gone
As she wrote about being stuck indoors
Suffering with something she wouldn’t tell
But then again as far as we could tell
We thought we’d be ok while staying apart
I know she must’ve hunkered down indoors
Writing poetry, not leaving this to chance
It’s just that we didn’t know she’d be gone
As her words reflect a beautiful life
I ponder about this delicate life
Fleeting moments as only verse can tell
One moment we’re here and the next we’re gone
Even if it seems like we’re falling apart
With drive we strive to have a fighting chance
Even while in the confines of being indoors
In the creative process when indoors
She must’ve had a different look on life
Her faith was tested but not left to chance
Poetry was the perfect way to tell
Even as the world seemed to fall apart
Writing verse was a way to mourn those gone
And I mourn again now that she is gone
Thinking of all those days being stuck indoors
As society teared itself apart
Clinging to the delicate balance of life
Her unabridged tale is a verse to tell
Like hope for others to have a fighting chance
She was best so I’m glad I got the chance
To have read her soulful verses that tell
On the musings and delicacy of life
