We fill our time with all kinds of things that seem a distraction.

It's difficult to defend television, but forty six of them drone on in the nursing home unit in which I work. Fox news, The Golden Girls, Gunsmoke, CSI, sports, various televangelists. There, too, it seems a blessing.

this packs a bit of a punch. i like how you make everything seem worthy enough to attach holy alongside it. those last few lines really drive home the point. well done.
