I have no patience
for long stories
and conversations
or long-winded answers
from long-minded folks
though I haven’t been
invited to anyone’s
holiday dinner,
sat in a center seat
of one long table.

This poem is so great to me because while I don’t mind long conversations, stories or answers when they’re real and honest, I hate them when they’re forced and I have no where to escape. I can’t think of anything worse than sitting center at a holiday table under those circumstances. Rather resembles a chopping block as I stare up to the executioner begging for his swing to be swift! What I liked about your closing line is that it could read two ways. 1. The author knew the relationship was doomed from the start. 2. The author is incredulous that the relationship is working despite the differences and can’t believe it. Terrific write. H🌷
