All I See Is Darkness

It may be bright and sunny outside,
But all I see are dark clouds.

The birds may be singing joyful songs,
But all I hear are the sounds of nothingness.

It may smell like fresh air and flowers
But all I smell is rot and decay.

There may be a beautiful rainbow
But I all I see is a terrible storm.

There may be a soft gentle breeze
But all I feel is a devastating tornado.

The squirrels may be chittering playfully
But all I hear is wails of torment.

There may be people laughing together at an inside joke
But all I understand is them laughing at me.

There may be a friend who is busy or has made other plans
But all I think is that I'm not worth their time.

There may be a door that just needs knocked on or opened
But all I see is a massive concrete wall with no way around or over it.

There may be a brighter future
But all I feel is the never-ending darkness.

These thoughts I have may be a permanent solution to a temporary problem
But all I see is no other way to stop the pain.

There may be things and people to live for
But all I think is that they would be better off without me.

Author's Note
I wrote this Aug 23, 2021 when I was in a dark place and instead of doing one of my go-to more unhealthy coping strategies, I instead wrote this poem. I am not a poet by any means, but it helped me get my feelings out of my own head.
