Hubcap Series # 1
I used to paint them
Refugees from the FDR Drive
New York City
Everyone worked by day
Artists by night
That what we did
You could get laid
Just by having paint on your jeans
What a time to be free

I've been looking at all 3 of these in tandem, in order to think about them.
I suppose that's how they would be intended to be seen--say, in a gallery installation.
As you explained, 9 in a row.
OK.
What I notice is the 3rd becomes more...I guess, "painterly," in the sense that it seems to be about the 2d-3d aspects--the flattening of perspective of a 3d object with the use of abstraction. Then the rothko-pollack visual components, with a grille adding another illusion.
Reading the comment for the 1st one, it suggests the object has value--not aesthetic value, in the sense that the 3rd does, but in the sense that it's both a relic and fetish of a time when "paint on your jeans" could get you laid. This concept is re-inforced with the style of the painting.
Enjoyed!

I was walking down a street in Boston when I came upon the first hubcap. I remember flying home with it. My prized possession. After I painted the first one I was like junkie. I had to have more.
So it began
I love doing stuff with found objects
Thanks M

Aside from the cool colors of the art applied here, I also like the nostalgia of it.
Sounds like great times.
BIG LIKE.
