Caligula

when he was a boy
Legionaries teased him
calling him little boots
while laughing it up

knowing one day soon
he'd rule over all of them
his plan for revenge was
removing their tongues

with a house full of enemies,
father was left for dead and
the women were imprisoned
Caligula lived but with bad luck

raised by his father's killer,
he felt hell in his head--
turning more sadistic and
loosing capacity for love

stories of his decadence
alarmed Romans out West
pain became the pleasure
within his empire of blood

the families of his enemies
were killed if they protested
forced to watch Caligula
torture thier loves ones

memories of his sister
being his only true friend
birthed sick fantasies of
shameless unchecked lust

orgies, killings, and rapes
now, he wanted incest
his sister couldn't say no
The Senate said, Enough

the people lost trust and
Caligula was found dead,
covered in blood with thirty
stab wounds in his stomach

his tale was tragic--void of
compassion or conscience
a tale Rome tried to erase
The Tale of Emperor Caligula

Author's Note
Caligula means Little Boots in Latin. When he was young he would put on a soldier's (Legionaries) uniform on to fit in with the other solders and get made fun of because it didn't fit. So they called him little boots.
