Sunset

You made me rise the other day.
Listening to all the lies.
Man, I got better things to do
than listen to you.
Wanted to scream like a jet
but instead I'll fade out like
golden sunset.
I won't be dragged through
the mud again.
Got bloody nails dragging myself out.
This time it's crystal clear
what you're all about.
When you were hanging with
a snake. I knew then.
Didn't have to count to ten.
All the misspoken words
taken out of context.
Exaggerated emotions
were used like swords
trying to cut me down.
I feel like you should have
known I'm a viper myself.
But, nah, I'll save my bite
for someone else.
Time to shed all of my muddy skin
and move somewhere new.
Cause friendships come
and go.
So no.
I won't scream like a jet,
Instead I'll fade out like an
everlasting sunset.
Where I will continue to glow
even from millions of miles away.

Author's Note
I had a friend a few years ago who always liked to take small jabs at me when we would group text with other friends. It got old. So I started taking bigger jabs back. I am a writer and its kinda what I do. It turned into this vortex of negativity. So I just quit engaging and wrote this instead. We no longer talk and I'm a better writer for it. Keep positive people in your life and let go of the negative. I promise in the end it will make you stronger.
