Black Woman

Black woman,
Your brown skin, effortlessly soaking up the sun's radiance and projecting it outward.
Your hands, gifted with the power to make anything grow.
Your hair, a vast garden of coils and curls sprouting from kinked roots.
Your voice, powerful enough to silence a room and incite riots in the face of injustice.
Your feet, never tiring from walking the path to break down barriers.
Your mind, never faltering as you constantly fight to break generational curses of trauma and abuse.
Your heart, unconditionally loving those that would never think to show you the same kindness.
Your soul, a bright light casting out all of the darkness there is.
You are a presence unlike any other.
Black woman,
Never change.

Author's Note
This poem was inspired by my experiences as a young, Black woman in America. I wrote it as a reminder to myself, as well as the other women in my life, of all that we can do. Thank you for taking time to read it. 💗
