For a long time, memory was physical:  the sound of the music literally cut into the surface of a wax cylinder; the mate to the tumblers of a lock the actual steel profile of the key; the punch card used by a jacquard loom, and later the earliest computers; even magnetic tape took up space.
Now, more and more, memory is becoming something without physical form--the cloud, the data encoded on a card key.
The result is both a nostalgia, a longing, a melancholy in the place of the loss of our relation to objects that carried our memory, both intended and unintended.

dearest Cipher I often feel this way in the digital age that we as writers are consumed online and then forgotten but on the other hand I know this isn't always the case as say for instance you... you have left your mark on my soul reaching not just me but others with your beautifully complex writing and spirit...I was listening to your poem where you said you had done time... I didn't listen to the whole poem because I have trouble focusing sometimes but I wanted you to know that is brave to bare your soul that way... I will come back to it...let me tell you for certain you yourself are unforgettable....
