Life is a game of pretend
We try to show our best side
Some of us try harder than others
Balance a concept lost to most
Except the transactional kind
How good is my deal?
Is it fair value for money?
Can I see through the swindle?
Do I accept it anyway?
Coz I have nowhere else to go
And I’m truly desperate
For peace no matter the price

This seems like a dark poem...
Seems like there's a potentially disturbing--but accurate take--on human relationships...
Last line does a lot of work that was only hinted at earlier in the poem.
