Brothers

The armies are gathered
The swords are out
Belief and knowledge at each other's throats
The heart of the peaceful coexistence is shattered
Vanity and ego is what this is about

On their sacred fields they stand
Online and offline they wage war
Tell me what madness this is all for!
They turn what is one into shadowed land

Until a voice will start to sing
A song that is not yet known
That can bring back together what really is one

On the field they stand
The swords are out
But now the song echoes over bloodred land
And all feel what it is about

They laid down their weapons and prayed for knowledge
They took out their instruments and searched for god
And both was a joy to behold

Until the armies can join together
Ignorance is our only true master
To know what's believed
And to believe what is known
When a man comes to this he comes into his own

The bell chimes
And calls to holy ground
Where instruments are welcome
Where knowlede is abound
Where no one is afraid
Of science finding god

And in this place where they gather
The time has come
For us to accept and for them to discover
That we are one, and we are forever

Author's Note
I thought of the last few lines years ago, but only now sat down to write the whole thing. As a former scientist and someone who has been brought up in church and still regularly prays despite not going to any formal service anymore, I always thought that the division between science and religion serves no purpose but self-important smugness and egomania. It feels good to assume yourself superior, but the better way is to try and understand the other side and find common ground. One is a knowledge of the heart, the other is rational knowledge, but it still is both knowledge that both sides seek. That is what the poem is about.
