I used to have insomnia all the time, back when I was young and unsure. Now that I'm old and know I'm right I sleep deep. Lol.

I have many poems about not sleeping. When I look back at them, they help me remember there was a reason I didn't sleep. Thank you for this poem that is so beautiful. I hope you sleep soon.

The mind screaming in terror of the little death of sleep, poetry haunts my waking until [mallet to the head] I finally collapse in bed to find poetry haunting my dreams. The awful unsaid question; do I wish for your rest and dreams and renewal or do I wish for your poetry? Wishing you happiness, sleep or no.

Insomnia is like a merry go round. From hell. Like water insomnia is so invasive assisting in poor decision making, fuzzy incomplete sentence making, forgotten thoughts, plans…but this “ O' dance and sing!  
those songs of memories  
plucked from the banks  
where nostalgia percolates  
and idea tendrils grow  
teetering on a cusp of reality” is where insomnia creates a brilliance 3 squares and a solid 8 hours won’t provide. The teetering between conscious and subconscious and that elusive middle where truth lies but can just barely be recalled.  
Of course I loved this too  
“borrowing deep  
into darkened bowels” as it reminded me of the steaming pile of sh*t from whence all my thoughts stem. Great as per! Sweet dreams 😉😴H🌷

Your truly AMAZINGLY accurate and spot on descriptions, solidify such solidarity of deep understanding. It has me wondering if you weren't tossing and turning right next to me... lol... Didn't we split that Haagen-Dazs vanilla bean pint?? haha 😂.. I guess I was the one who ate it all... Damn!

I adore the kinship and loathe that we have it in common at the same time. It's toll taking for sure.
I think my hormones from pre-menopause cause the bulk of my mind's inability to quiet down, like it used to.... so that's just a joy (sarcasm!) to consider and wonder how long it will effect me for - ...pssscchh....(my sound of ultimate frustration!)

I can't tell you how much relatable this is and how you perfectly describe that "carousel" of thoughts going round and round. In this book "One Hundred Years of Solitude", the author tells of of time when the entire town suffered from insomnia and how nights became like days, everyone would work and go about conducting business. This verse has that same feeling, so much brain activity is going around in circles. But you brought an excellent verse out of this.

Hope you were able to go back to your normal sleep cycles after this.

I ebb and flow with insomnia bouts... lol... Thanks for the comments and the understanding (sadly, for us, I suppose!) I am sure the majority of us here can relate in some way, at some point... I am so glad you enjoyed, my friend 🙏🏻
