Into My Mind 2

I see your sideways glances
And I hear your sparky comments.
The labels you throw my way
Attack my heart and sear into my mind
As I take my daily dose of prescription pills
To focus my attention and stimulate my mind
Because this ADHD mind of mine drives me to madness
But this ADHD mind of mine I would never trade.

So, go ahead and throw your shade,
It's a nice break from the hot summer sun.
See, what you don't know is I have a condition
My mind does not work likes yours
When you see me taking my medication
I am not cheating to get ahead,
I am not enhancing my mental performance,
I am not just trying to get high,
I am simply leveling the field on which you strive.

I make no excuses for taking these daily doses
Even though I struggled to sleep last night
And without my pills life feels like a winless fight.
But on a single point, you are right,
Usually I do take my pills out of public sight.
But it's been a week since my last re-fill
And still I managed to focus in class and
Remembered to eat a healthy three meals a day.

But still, I see your sideways glances

To capture my attention and stimulate my mind
Because this ADHD mind of mine may drove me to madness,
But this ADHD mind of mine I would never trade.

Since the age of eleven I have proudly
Worn the diagnosis of ADHD Inattentive Presentation I was given.
Fallen down more times than I can count
That's to say: don't ever count me out.
Because although we all have our battles,
My battles are fought while someone else
Holds my weapon and the controller is glitching...yeah.
Taking my medication is not a fix-all update patch,
But it does at least help with that connection.

To my mother who "drugged" me all those years ago
Taking blows and dodging shade haters throw
Thank-you...thank-you for leveling the ground I sow
Because of you, I will continue to grow.
Grow and struggle, strive and drive ahead.
So yes, I will take my pills because
I have ADHD Inattentive Presentation,

Just thought you should know
I am proud to be trudging alongside
The 9.4% world wide diagnosed with ADHD.
Surrounded by faces faces: Michael Phelps and Simone Biles, Sur Isacc Newton, and Einstein.
So, when I take these prescription stimulate meds of mine,
Please, pay me no mind as I am simply
Attempting to stimulate my non-neurtypical mind
Into this neurotypical world of mine.

But still, this stigma hurts and it even takes lives
Preventing diagnosis and promoting skipped doses
I admit, even I am self-conscious
But I fear the consequences more then the lightness,
So, I will continue to take my pills,
Please, do your part and end the stigma.
No more sideways glances,
No more snarky comments,
No more weightless pre-conceived notions.
This ADHD mind of mine may drive me to madness,
But this ADHD mind of mine I would never trade
Because this ADHD mind of mine
And these pills of mine,
Have made me who I am today
