it's undeniable that dickens
was cruel to his wife whilst denouncing the injustice of the times through which he lived.
I just wish he'd been nice ..

Talented people are under no obligation to be nice. My own idea is that if people were flawlessly good we wouldn’t need art.
Fun fact: did you know that Dickens was also obsessed with corpses? He’d spend time with the headless bodies of guillotine victims, studying what he called “the sublime obliteration of the neck.” (I may be paraphrasing, but not by much.) He also liked grossing out his buddy with them, mocking him for reacting badly to the sight of dead bodies. Kind of an all-round dick, was Charlie.
